The future of seafood requires resilient local production

The global seafood industry is entering a period of unprecedented change. Climate change, extreme weather events, water scarcity, biodiversity loss and growing pressure on natural ecosystems are increasingly disrupting traditional seafood production. At the same time, geopolitical tensions, trade dependencies and rapidly growing middle classes in many exporting countries are reducing the reliability of global seafood supply chains, while local demand in those markets continues to increase.

Europe today imports more than 70% of the seafood it consumes, making food security increasingly dependent on global supply chains that are becoming more volatile every year.

Wild fisheries and conventional coastal aquaculture will remain essential parts of the global seafood system, but they alone cannot meet future demand while simultaneously providing the resilience, sustainability and supply security Europe requires.

Oceanloop was founded to help address this challenge. By producing premium seafood close to consumers in fully controlled land-based RAS facilities powered by renewable energy and circular resource use, we strengthen Europe's food resilience, reduce dependence on imports and create a scalable platform for sustainable seafood production in a rapidly changing world.
